Online counselling, via video call isn’t all that dissimilar from face to face. We are still able to see each other and even though we are not in the same room, I can still help you to explore your feelings, understand what you are going through and support you to make any changes in your life you feel you need to.
Having counselling online may even hold some additional benefits. You are able to have sessions from the comfort of your own home, you don’t have to commute and it can be a time that is convenient and fitting with your lifestyle.
Like anything new, it may feel a little out of your comfort zone at first but it’s a really straight forward process and I’m sure that after a few times it will become second nature.
I am also happy to offer assistance and talk you through the process of setting up.
How it Works
- We would have a free, confidential, initial consultation via telephone, to give you the opportunity to talk about what you are experiencing and what your hopes are for counselling. This also gives you the opportunity to check out if I’m a right fit for you. (You can click here to contact me to book an appointment)
- I send you my Online Counselling Guide, as well as a client information form, via email, for you to complete and return to me prior to your first client -It’s a simple form that takes a couple of minutes to complete.
- The counselling sessions take place via the ZOOM app. It’s a completely free, secure and encrypted web platform that can be downloaded in a matter of minutes to your smartphone, tablet or laptop. You would need to sign up and you only need an email to do this. Just ensure that you make a note of your password.
- Due to us working online I would need an emergency name and contact number as well as your GP details. It’s vital that I would be able to keep you safe if an emergency situation were to arise.
That’s it! You are ready for your first counselling session
Things to consider
- It is best to connect to WIFI where possible. This will give you a stronger and more reliable connection.
- If possible, it’s ideal to set up in a space free from interruptions. Somewhere you have some privacy and can speak openly without the worry of being overheard. Headphones are a good idea if you have them to hand.
- Choose to sit somewhere comfortable, where you feel relaxed. This will help you to feel at ease so you will be able to focus more during the session and get more out of it.
- It’s ideal if you can position your device at eye level. This will help with the connection between us and enable me to see you better.
